m. s.n.m.

m. s.n.m. (2022) - paper pulp. Some have a bit of sand. Sizes variable.

These ongoing fictional topographies are inspired by a combination of textures both experienced and researched, of earth and of space, places that are vast, places I can romanticize visiting and getting lost in.

When each piece is being made, it is a constantly changing environment. The fiber follows the water, the pigment particles sometimes straggle or wash away, I will let things dry just a bit in between- and then, after molding the surface with my hands, I step away for days. These surfaces shrink, pull, they lose their shine, they lighten up as if sun bleached, and they develop sharp edges and contrasted shadows. They become a different form than the one I created. They become solid and traceable, a field of waning thoughts to project myself upon its stationary peaks and valleys when I revisit them.

The series is named "m. s.n.m.” (acronym for “metros sobre el nivel del mar” (Spa) : “meters above sea level”).
